LEGO Derby 2025 OPEN HOUSE

Open to all Cub Scouts and friends of Cub Scouts! Join us for a evening of LEGO building and extreme downhill racing action!

You can use your favorite LEGO kit or build your own, unique racing machine.

Every Cub who brings a non-Scout friend will earn a LEGO kit! We’ll award those kits at the November Pack Meeting.

Race winner will receive a LEGO gift certificate. Other TBD prizes will be awarded for 2nd overall, 3rd overall, and 1st in each age group.

Provided Kit

Pack 459 will provide you with:

• 2.2oz MiniBrick Derby wheel kit
• Bins of LEGO to build your car

Draft Rules (to be approved by Race Committee)

• You must use the provide 2.2oz MiniBrick Derby wheel kit.
  • The axles may be lubricated.
• Weight: Cars must weigh no more than 6 oz. (using official race weigh-in scale).
• Length: Cars must be no more than 20 LEGO studs long.
• Width: Cars must be no more than 8 LEGO studs wide.
• Height: Cars must be no more than 10 LEGO bricks high.
• Prohibited modifications:
  • Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
  • The car must not ride on any type of springs.
  • No starting devices. The car must be freewheeling.
  • No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot, may be used

Race Procedures

• Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it.
• If the car loses a piece, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to make a repair
• Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.
• The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.

Pinewood Derby Ramp

We’ll be using the same ramp we use for our annual Pinewood Derby, where cubs use wood blocks to make their cars.
